The Ketchikan Queer Collective

The Ketchikan Queer Collective is a committee of the Ketchikan Pride Alliance. We are a group of LGBTQ+ individuals who have come together to inform, inspire, and build community through our quarterly publication Loud and Queer! Based in Ketchikan, we work locally and regionally to make LGBTQ+ experiences visible and our voices heard.

Founding the Collective

In January of 2021, a group of LGBTQ+ individuals in Ketchikan convened to discuss increasing the visibility and improving access to resources for LGBTQ+ people in Southeast Alaska.

LGBTQ+ people live full lives in Southeast Alaska, but there is little evidence proving our existence and few opportunities for connection across such a large and remote region. LGBTQ+ people continue to face discrimination and violence in their personal lives, at work, in their communities, and in accessing healthcare. These factors can lead to a sense of isolation and feeling unsafe and unwelcome. The Ketchikan Queer Collective formed to inform, inspire, and build LGBTQ+ community in Southeast Alaska.

Remote communities in Southeast Alaska are and should be welcoming homes to people of all genders, identities, and orientations. We believe in supporting LGBTQ+ people and prioritizing those experiences and voices. We actively seek solidarity and collaborations with other organizations and individuals working towards the collective liberation of all people.
