Reclaiming Queer

For many people, Queer is still a difficult word to hear or read because of its history as an insult. We use Queer as an umbrella term to best describe and talk about our community in as inclusive a way as possible.

Queer does not fall on society's ideas of a traditional sexuality or a traditional gender identity.

Queer recognizes the full spectrum of our identities and does not erase individual identities or lived experiences with a +.

As language continues to shift and terms take on new meanings we will assess our use of the term and reflect the language being used by our community.

Ultimately it comes down to respect. It’s important to use the terms that people use to identify themselves.
